Lake Wallenpaupack

An awesome time in a cabin in the Pocono Mountains with Grandpa and the kiddos for four days.  So blessed to have the time to explore with some of my favorite people.

Bedtime songs

I've been singing the same bedtime songs to both kids for over a year now.  I know that I feel that I will remember these songs forever, however -- since I don't seem to remember anything that happened with the children more than two days ago (unless it is written about on this blog) -- I want to write it down to make sure.

Song #1: The Namaste Song (learned when Alma and I did a weekly Mommy and Me yoga class at Wake Up Yoga in South Philly from the time she was born until we moved when she was 8 months old)

The light in you is the light in me.
Namaste I bow to you.
The light in you is the light in me.
Namaste I bow to you.
You are the light and the light is you.
We are part of all we see.
You are the light and the light is you.
We are part of all we see.
Namaste Namaste Namaste OM
Namaste Namaste Namaste OM

Song #2: You Are My Alma/Jamers (original production, set to the tune of You Are My Sunshine)

You are my Alma
My lovely Alma
And I love to love you so
You're my daughter and I love you
From your head to your toes

Song #3: The Barney Song (yup, the song Barney sings during his show; I didn't like it at first because it came from a TV show but the lyrics -- when sung so many times -- feel sweet and like it is our own song)

I love you
You love me
We're a happy family
With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you
Won't you say you love me too?

Mother's and Father's Days

Feeling grateful for the children who made us parents.

Jai alai

The other day the kids and I were outside from 8am - 6pm (except for the 2 hour nap we all enjoyed in the middle of the day) enjoying the beautiful weather.

At the end of the day, I stepped inside to start some pizza dough in the bread maker.  When I peeked out the window, Alma had a concrete bocce ball in Simon's ball launcher and was about to hurl it at James, who she placed 5 feet away against the garage wall.  Yikes!   It reminded me of Jai alai (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jai_alai) or shooting apples on the top of another's head.

In my typical fashion, I ran outside yelling STOP while laughing hysterically before Alma smashed her brother's head in with the bocce ball .  I kept laughing and laughing -- what I do when nervous or scared -- with Alma looking at me like, "Are you saying stop as I hear you saying or do you want to do it because it is hilarious?"  Poor kiddos, your mother is so confusing.  Eventually I calmed down (while keeping a hand on the launcher to make sure it was understood that it shouldn't be used) and explained which balls were appropriate/the importance of distance/just throwing the ball for the dog/etc.

I love how inventive they are at coming up with new games in the back yard.  And, while I'm all for invention, let's try to avoid hospital trips/James needing a new face!!

June 2012

Another throwback set of Alma and James in June of 2012 when they were 6 months and 2.5 years old.

Talking to Dogs

Yesterday after Joshua, Alma and James watched me play in a rugby 7's match, we walked over to pet a beautiful golden retriever who was at the tournament.  In typical fashion, James was cooing and ooing to the dog about how she was so soft and a "red dog" while Alma held back with Joshua enjoying the dog from a distance.  When James seemed to think that no one was listening, he leaned over to the dog and whispered "My mom plays rugby."

Michael Jackson

This morning as we were driving in to his daycare, a Michael Jackson song came on the radio.

[In the rear view mirror, I see James’s face become confused]
James: What’s this? (meaning: Who is this?)
Me: Michael Jackson
James: Oh!  He’s so cute!
Me: Yeah sure, I guess he’s cute.
James: I’m going to marry Michael Jackson!

Obviously the talk from Alma’s classroom about who is pairing off for future marital bliss is being picked up by James.  Ha!
