We found another city we love: Atlanta. Before we went, people kept asking, “What’s in Atlanta?” and we couldn’t exactly answer. But now we certainly can.
In no particular order: Atlanta has WeMo driverless vehicles, a beautiful botanical garden, and the Martin Luther King Jr. birthplace, memorial, and Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church. It has delicious food everywhere you go, including Ponce City Market; a delightful French lunch spot where I enjoyed chicken and waffles with Georgia peaches; multiple great Mexican meals; and some of the best biscuits around.
It also has the BeltLine Trail, which we explored on rented beach cruisers. I may have enjoyed this a bit more than the kids, who were confused by the idea of riding simply for pleasure and sightseeing. There was public art everywhere we turned, plus a space-themed escape room and a place for Alma to trail run near the Chattahoochee River. We stayed in a super cute Airbnb in a neighborhood near Inman Park and, as usual, spent much of the trip walking to our destinations. With worries about super long TSA lines run by ICE agents, we spent the last night in a hotel near the airport, having a picnic on the floor after enjoying the pool.
We also made our way to a few of the bigger Atlanta stops: the World of Coca-Cola, where the tasting room was definitely the highlight; the Georgia Aquarium; and Centennial Olympic Park. They may not have been at the top of our list, but they were part of the adventure.
As always, it was nice to get away for a bit, especially with these two laid-back and fun traveling buddies.
