First day of school: 3rd and 5th grade

The kids and Joshua feel especially lucky to be heading to school today when the rest of the county is limited to online learning.  With only 13 students in the large class space, our Chisholms made up over one-fifth of the classroom population.

Thank you, Joshua, for being such a great teacher.  You have been working so diligently all summer to make going back to school a reality.

Family walks

Morning family walks are what have helped us (only me?) to get through the last six months of COVID-19 living.  The daily schedule of getting dressed, having breakfast as a family, and going on a 1.67-mile walk through our neighborhood, along the Chester Valley Trail, and then back home again has been the basis of our days.  I've loved getting a chance to connect and move forward with my greatest loves.

We are so blessed.  I'm going to miss these walks when the kids and Joshua are back at school.

August fun

Photos shown: Puzzle that was started during a big rainstorm that took five days to complete, cinnamon swirl challah bread made from scratch, Marsh Creek pool visit, the children completing huge Harry Potter Lego sets, trips with Nana and Grandpa to Lake Nockamixon for kayaking + picnic (kayaking not shown) and to the Lehigh Valley Zoo + OHWOWCOW Ice Cream shop, rice crispy treats, and finally working on my dissertation.

While Joshua did set-up week for his classroom, I took time off from work to hang out with the kids. In general, the pandemic is still keeping us close to home and only venturing out during the week when activities are not as crowded.  It was so nice to see my parents -- with masks, outside, and socially distanced (except for photos) -- twice this last week in expectation of the kids and Joshua going back to school.  Fingers crossed for an uneventful beginning to the start of the academic year.  Happily, I have no plans of going back to the office (virtual meetings all day, every workday) and the kids and Joshua make up 25% of the people in their classroom, which is held in a large space.

I love the picture of the kids in the wolf den at the zoo.  Look at this comparison from nearly seven years ago.  James has grown significantly during the last few months.  He has only gained 1 lb. in the last eight months but he has grown taller!

I love that little "volunteer" zoo (as Joshua calls it because most of the animals naturally live in this region) and am so happy we keep going back each year.  Comically, many of the animals the kids grew up visiting have since passed and have plaques in their honor, including the bobcat who used to always hiss at Joshua.

Happy Anniversary

Joshua, I love you more than all the awkward and/or out-of-focus photos that we have taken together.

Happy 14th anniversary.

Slip and Slide

Grandma Chisholm and Grandpa Henry sent an awesome (and awesomely huge) slip and slide, which was a blast for the kids.

The Day According to Alma

Today we went to the pool and had lunch there which included PB and J (or just p) on bread. We also had raisins (we are eating those in the picture), pretzel chips, Puffins, popcorn, and Triskits. It was very fun. My favorite part was standing under these buckets that (once full) tip over and splash you!

After we went swimming, we got Rita's water ice. I got gelato with blue raspberry with chocolate and vanilla custard on top but with no custard on the bottom. James got gelato too and he had no custard on the bottom just like me but he had Swedish fish for his water ice and just chocolate custard on top.  My mom had just chocolate custard. When we got home, we found a praying mantis that nearly jumped on my mom when she was taking this picture!
